- In many countries, people cannot be forced to testify against oneself
under the constitution. In US, supreme court interpret this in full measure
as a right to remain silent.
- When a thieves get caught, police are required to give legal advices
that the thieves have a right to remain silent. That legal advices are so
clear even stupid robbers can follow it.
- Yet, when a productive humans do not want to confess his income to the
IRS, he got a "not so clear" message. If he argues that he has a right to
remain silent, he'll go to jail for frivolous argument against the IRS. If
he says that he must confess, then it cannot be used against him, he'll
go to jail too because tax return is "voluntary".
- Now I am not an expert and don't know what the hell is going on in the tax
systems all over the word. I smell something fishy here. One thing obvious
is that such arguments are not frivolous (the last time I check supreme
court split 5-4) on the issue. Also this voluntary yet mandatory twilight
zone is
way more complex than the simple "You have the right to remain silent."
If I can't understand it, it's tough.
- Various immigration laws and minimum wages tend to bum up the income of
less capable males. Because capitalism maximize productivity as a whole,
excluding monopoly cases, which is not necessarily bad, any governments'
program that bum up the income of the less capable bum down the income of
the more capable.
