Why do Many People Oppose Porn & Prostitution so Much?

The following are conversation from Bob and John.

Bob: John, you're ugly. Your mom is ugly. Your dad is ugly. Your kids are ugly. Your dog is ugly too.

John (angrily): My dog is not ugly.

This is a common joke that we see in many sitcoms. Naturally, humans will be more offended being called ugly, rather than having his dog being called ugly. The funny part is that for some reason John feels that he needs to straighten up the opinion that his dog is not ugly rather than the rest.

So the key here is the inappropriate reaction that John do. John over-react on area that's should have offended him little but ignore areas that should be much more important.

The same scenario happens on real life. This time it's not a joke.

I saw a kid on TV walking on high ropes in the circus without safety net. Wow, such acts are really dangerous for minors (or anyone). I mean, he can die. Why is it legal for him to do so?

In Indonesia, there are many kids that are begging from cars to cars. Such kids live a very low standard of living because their parents choose to make kids before being rich. Yet, it's not illegal to born kids into poverty.

Those kids actually work. The amount that they get from begging will have to be given to local thugs. So? Try hiring them for more humane work with hire salary and bigger wealth potential. You'll soon get sued by child protection agency that want to protect child from labor. Try putting them in Christians orphanage and the radical Muslims will destroy the orphanage to protect the kids' religion from Christianization.

J Daniel Scruggs for example commit suicide after being bullied. Wow, bullying must be really dangerous for minor. It can cause some psychological damage that leads to reduced life happiness.

When a kid is being beaten up, why no body called cops? Many did. Cops did nothing. I knew how that feel. I lost my properties to thief a long time ago. Cops also did nothing in case of fraud, or thief. Even if the thief get caught, the laws only punish lightly. No body care that a kid got beaten up.

Daniel got 139 IQ. That's almost as high as mine. What a waste. His death, will reduce our genetic quality quite significantly, and hence our standard of living.

The bullying didn't stop at young age. Smarter people tend to make more money. Then those who are not as productive demand punishment against the productive in the form of income tax. Why? What's wrong with making money honestly? Why is it punished?

Often smart people are forced to become violent dictators, like Pinochet, to even out the playing field. Still people blame the dictators rather than the bullying mobs.

In fact, the damage doesn't have to be psychological at all. In Indonesia, on 2003, there was a boy named Wahyu Hidayat. He was beaten up in his school during schools' official ritual that is approved by the teachers. When Wahyu died, the teachers defend the beating as "educational."

Governments care very little about protecting the innocent hapless kids. What about women?

In China, due to one child policy, many women baby are being aborted or killed just after being born. Now, I know many of you support abortion right. However, some babies are also killed after being born here because Chinese hate daughters so much they'd rather have the females killed.

There are like 11 males for every 9 females in China. Normally, there should be more females. Evolution theory teach that the number of species in a gender is inversely proportional to the parents resources allocation for a gender. Because females eat less food, there are usually slightly more females than males in all other cultures.

Chinese governments look the other way around. I guess, the Chinese don't consider killing people as a serious offense.

Yet Chinese governments do have laws to "protect" woman. When some Japanese consensually pay many Chinese prostitutes for orgy, many Chinese are outraged. The Chinese liken the consensual orgy to the rape of Nanking. Those Japs are told to leave the country. Many Japanese shops are burnt. Such a "heinous" acts are punished heavily. The prostitutes are jailed for life for consensually hurting themselves by accepting consensual offer somehow.

Also, to protect Chinese women, Chinese governments prohibits nude Sushi.

I get really suspicious. I am not female. However, I know what's good for me. A consensual choice is virtually always good for an adult. If it's bad, then we simply deny the choice. So, to me, a male, my interests will be in having more choices. There is virtually no way, any other humans can protect me from choices to consensually interact with other humans. I think the case is similar for women. If the Chinese really want to protect their women, well, they can start from stop killing those women and allowing all consensual choices. Doh?

Prostitution is illegal in many states even though the acts are consensual.

A friend of mine is a porn webmaster. He told me that he lost $4000/month worth of income.

Me: Why?

Him: Well, there is this new anti child porn law.

Me: Well, you're not in child porn business aren't you?

Him: Of course not. However, the new laws requires that we must have proof that all the girls in the porn pics that we have on the net are above 18+. Usually we did that by stating that the proof is in the hand of the guardian of records. The thing is on July 2005, there was a new requirement. Now, all webmasters must have the copy of the proof too. Failure to do that will results in 10 years sentence.

Me: So how does that hurt your business?

Him: Well, many of porn sites that I promote has pictures of pretty girls. Those girls are obviously above 18. Some are even granny. However, we don't really have the proof and there is not enough time for my sponsors to catch up with the burdensome rule. So they replace sites that convert well with other sites. That other sites do not convert as well, forcing me to cut off my advertising budget. Hence, I am making way less money.

The new regulation is called the 2257 regulation. It says that every webmaster that put a porn pic in his website must:

1. Keep records of the ages of the participants and copies of their photo IDs; and
2. Is required to list a street address where the government may inspect these records without notice (and keep it open 20 hours a week for at least the next five years).

What does it mean? Well, say you see a photo of an adult woman naked. Then you put it on your website. Then you are secondary producers. Then, you need to have the record of her photo ID and her ages. So if you receive a lot of porn through various discussion groups, and then you distribute the porn to other discussion groups, governments can jail you for 10 years. That's even though there is no child porn involved whatsoever.

Not only that, any woman that want to be a nude model will have to agree to have her photo ID being available to thousands of webmasters. What a way to limit women's choice.

To me, some things are strange.

1. In criminal laws, usually, the governments have the burden of proof to convict you. If you are caught walking with a Warcraft CD, for example, you do not have to proof that you acquired the CD legally. Why porn webmaster has the burden of proof that he acquired his photos lawfully?
2. Even if governments want to ensure that no laws are being broken, the efforts that governments go through is not usually this big. There is no rule, for example, requiring every pawn shop to ensure that the property is legally acquired.
3. In the case of pawn shops, even if the property is proven latter to be illegally acquired, most of us would agree that it's the fault of the person that illegally acquire property, not the pawn shop.

I also found cases after cases of governments zealot-ness in protecting us from various consensual sex.

1. A mother is indicted for hiring stripper for her 16 years old son.
2. A libertarian feminist send me an email saying that it is punishable by 3 years and $30,000 fine for sending email to double opt-in list. The reason? The Utah and Michigan created a "Child protection registry laws." The laws are there to ensure that no kids got information that may lead to "adult only" material.

You may disagree with me over whether porn is actually dangerous or good for minors. However, which one is more dangerous? Got beaten up or watching porn? Got killed or joining an orgy? Having less choice, or having some other humans decide what's best for you? The first choices are obviously more dangerous.

Perhaps, child porn are so dangerous that governments need to do "extra" stuff to prevent it. At least that's what conservatives religious people want us to believe.

Now I am not a legal expert. I understand that kids do stupid things. Hence governments have legitimate case to override kids choice for the kids' own good.

I said "a case." Not that I'll support governments choice either.

In my opinion, not watching porn is dangerous for minor for it can make kids susceptible to religious propaganda that promote abstinence. Abstinence, as we know, is very dangerous because it can lead to extinction and reduction life satisfaction.

Not watching enough porn can also lead to romance which will end up in marriage, which, as we know, often leads to unhappiness.

To summarize, these are the paradoxes that I found.

1. Humans maximize selfish profit. Mutually consensual acts are therefore mutually beneficial. Though not impossible, it is highly unlikely anyone's interest can be protected by prohibition of consensual acts. In particular, my interests are protected mainly by my choices, not reduction of it.
2. There are many acts that are obviously far more dangerous than the consensual acts. However, those more dangerous acts are practically tolerated or punished lightly.
3. Acts that governments claim to be dangerous are acts that are, understandably, not only not dangerous, but good. Those are acts that provide pleasure, life satisfaction, and gene pool survival.

So why do governments all over the world oppose vehemently many consensual acts? What's their real reasons?

Science have truthful answers what religions can only deceive. For that we need to go back first to the meaning of life.
